Boat America Session 5

The Antique Boat Museum is proud to continue its long-standing partnership with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary by phasing in the updated Boat America curriculum over the course of the 2022 season. Some Coast Guard Auxiliary classes will be held remotely in 2022.

Online: Each session is held Monday-Thursday, 6:00-8:00pm. Students will need a computer or tablet with internet access, a functioning webcam and microphone to participate in this class. Textbooks can be picked up at the Antique Boat Museum or emailed as a PDF. A Zoom invitation will be emailed to all students immediately prior to the start of class each evening. You only need to register for and attend one session to receive your certificate.

Boating Education Requirements – NYS Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation

When will I need a boating safety certificate in New York State?

Under a law known as Brianna’s Law, all motor boat operators:

  • Born on or after Jan. 1, 1993 will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2020.
  • Born on or after Jan. 1, 1988 will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2022.
  • Born on or after Jan. 1, 1983 will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2023.
  • Born on or after Jan. 1, 1978 will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2024.
  • All motor boat operators regardless of age will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2025.
