Beginning Sailing

Our Beginner Sailing course is a fantastic fit for kids who are ready to take the next step, sailing on the St. Lawrence River, or have grown out of Intro to Small Craft. Over five days, students learn the fundamentals of sailing in a hands-on, supportive environment. Our instructors guide them through capsize recovery, swim safety, points of sail, reading wind and current, sail trim, steering, basic rigging, and derigging, and much more. Kids also practice essential knots and get plenty of time on the water sailing our fleet of Sunfish, rotating roles as skipper and crew. We focus on safety, teamwork, and building confidence, and by the end of the week, our goal is for every student to feel comfortable handling a boat with a partner while having fun out on the river.
