The Program: Benefit Boats is a new program that offers a unique way for boat owners to sell their boats and support the ABM’s education programs and operations. Throughout the year, the ABM accepts donated boats of all types, shapes, sizes, ages and function. Boats not taken into our collection are offered for sale as Benefit Boats, often at a fraction of their market value, and the donor usually receives a tax deduction.
Additionally, the ABM occasionally sells boats from its collection through a process called deaccessioning. These Benefit Boats are sold out of the collection because the ABM has acquired a better example, another boat that tells a story better, or because the boat no longer has an interpretive use.
Benefit Boats are available for purchase all year long through our program partner, Antique Boat America. Those that don’t sell by July 4 will be offered with NO RESERVE at the annual Auction on August 2, 2014 at 1pm at the ABM in Clayton, NY.
To donate or purchase a Benefit Boat, contact Peter Mellon, program manager, at 315-783-6100 or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
