ABM ANNOUNCES ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITIONAL RACEBOAT REGATTA
CLAYTON, New York (May 1, 2018) – The Antique Boat Museum (ABM), North America’s premier freshwater boating museum based in Clayton, NY, announced today that that they will be presenting an alternative event to the traditional weekend of Regatta, calling it Need for Speed!
With a number of factors influencing the decision, the ABM has decided not to conduct the Regatta as a fully sanctioned APBA (American Power Boat Association) event this year which has been on the calendar as a biennial 3-day event since its start in 1992. The ABM staff team is working with a small volunteer committee comprised of members from the vintage racing scene. They are producing an alternative event that we trust will be every bit as enjoyable. In particular there will be special emphasis on the collection of data, and the input from our dedicated participants and hobbyist to help with improving future events.
This festival-like show with workshops will take place on Saturday, August 18, 2018 and will include facilitated round table discussions, raceboats, food trucks, live music, and much more. You won’t want to miss this year’s Need for Speed! The weekend will have something for everyone and we need your input to help shape future Regattas.
Special activities to be held during the Need for Speed! Will also honor active duty & retired military members as well as our Wounded Warriors and their families. A full schedule of the activities and registration information will be available in the near future.
The intent of Need for Speed! is to be a temporary placeholder for the Biennial Raceboat Regatta which will come back summer 2020 with a new look and feel based on the input from our participants.
