The Museum currently has one opening for full-time staff.

 

STORE MANAGER

The Store Manager will work closely with the Museum's senior staff team to ensure that the Museum Store continues to grow and promote the Museum in a positive way. Duties include identifying and purchasing merchandise, hiring, training and supervising store staff, managing inventory, and working with the Business Office to fine tune and implement a business plan. Applicants should have retail, management and/or museum experience, have an esthetic sensibility and be comfortable with word processing, inventory and financial software. Experience with online retailing is a definite asset. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to work at a dynamic and growing institution with a team of dedicated professionals. Events Department Intern:  Data entry, events planning and coordinating

with volunteers, program lay-out, writing press releases, working with community

organizations to market events.  Paid and Volunteer, May-October full-time

and part-time positions available.

 

Facilities Assistant: The Museum’s facilities department seeks high motivated

workers for the summer to help with the care of the Museum’s buildings and

n-water fleet. Duties include cleaning of buildings and exhibits, light carpentry,

maintenance of in-water boats, and set-up and clean-up for events.

 

La Duchesse Attendant: La Duchesse is the Museum’s gilded age

houseboat that was once owned by George Boldt and Andrew McNally.

The 100+ foot floating home is open to visitors throughout the summer months

for tours. Attendants are responsible for assisting docents with guided tours,

informing guests of tour times and providing history of La Duchesse, as well

as watering flowers, routine dusting and cleaning of rooms and decks, and

performing other general chores.

 

Museum Store Sales: The Museum Store is a better-quality book, gift

and clothing store focusing on products related to the Museum’s exhibits

and the life and presence they reflect on the St. Lawrence River. Applicants

should have solid retail experience, preferably in a computerized POS environment. 

 

Receptionist: Administrative Office front desk receptionist/phone operator. 

Greet and direct visitors, answer phones and forward to appropriate

departments, word processing and data base input required.  Monday – Friday, 

8:30 am – 5 pm.

 

Sailing Instructor:  The Museum sailing school hosts four sessions of Junior

Sailing for students ages 8-15. The Sailing Instructor is responsible for coordinating

and instructing the youth program including beginner and return sailing lessons.

Specific job responsibilities include: writing lesson plans, equipment inspection

and classroom set up, supervision and record keeping for sailing classes, and

instruction involving both land and water lectures, demonstration and skill

practice. US Sailing or Red Cross instructor certification is required.

 

Skiff Livery Attendant: Skiff livery attendants man our operational livery

where Museum visitors are able to barrow one of the Museum’s traditional

rowing boats for an hour on the water. Attendants are responsible for teaching

visitors about boater etiquette, boater safety, and local 1000 Islands history.

They are also responsible for the routine cleaning and care of the boats in

the skiff house. Experience on the water and a boater safety certificate a plus.

 

Summer Educator: The Summer Educator is responsible for continuing

in the already established direction of the Museum’s Camp ABM for children.

Tasks include writing lesson plans, preparing materials, instructing the camp

classes. Classes are held in the morning and will be for children ages 4-8.

Experience working with children is required and a background in

education preferred.

 

Volunteer: The Museum has over 150 volunteers that donate their time

to help with small jobs around the Museum campus, work in the boat shop,

and for major events. No experience necessary, one just needs to want to

learn and give back.

 

*All applicants should have good interpersonal skills, the ability to work

as part of a team, and be available to work weekends and occasional

evenings. An interest in or experience with wooden boats and/or

the River would be helpful.
